When Indian at the Cross opened its doors in Suzhou's Old Town in 2006, it became the city's first Indian restaurant, introducing authentic Indian cuisine to a city where it was virtually unknown. Nearly two decades later, now operating as Thali Kitchen, it remains the go-to destination for authentic Indian cuisine in SIP.

Authenticity has always been at the heart of the restaurant. The kitchen is led by experienced Indian chefs using imported spices and ingredients, with curries prepared from scratch rather than relying on pre-made sauces or curry powders. From rich curries and sizzling tandoori dishes to fragrant biryanis, freshly baked naan breads and traditional desserts, the extensive menu offers something for both first-time visitors and lifelong lovers of Indian cuisine.

Quality is equally important. All meat is halal and prepared in a dedicated halal kitchen, with carefully selected cuts used wherever appropriate to ensure every dish lives up to the restaurant's reputation for quality and authenticity. Friendly, English-speaking front-of-house staff are always on hand to welcome guests and help newcomers navigate the extensive menu.

Over the years, Thali Kitchen has become the natural meeting place for Suzhou's large Indian community, while also earning a loyal following among other international residents. As appreciation for Indian cuisine continues to grow, increasing numbers of Chinese diners are discovering the rich flavours, variety and freshness that have made the restaurant a favourite for almost twenty years.

Located three floors above The Butcher's Hook in In City Mall, Thali Kitchen is part of the long-established Southern Cross Group. One of the unique advantages of the two restaurants sharing the same building is that guests can order from either menu while dining in either restaurant. It's the perfect solution when one person is craving a curry while another has their heart set on a steak.

For those dining at home, Thali Kitchen also offers delivery across Suzhou and beyond, from individual meals to large orders for parties, and corporate events. They also offer outside catering.

One of the week's highlights is the popular Friday Night Buffet, where guests can enjoy an unlimited selection of Indian favourites—including a drink—for just 128 RMB.
