Shishan Grand Theatre

One of Suzhou's newest major performing arts venues, Shishan Grand Theatre opened in 2024 as part of Shishan Culture Plaza, close to Suzhou Museum West. Designed under the direction of Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima, the theatre is part of a major new cultural district between Lion Mountain and Tianshi Lake.

The complex includes a 1,300+ seat Grand Theatre and a flexible multifunctional hall. A movable acoustic shell allows the main auditorium to accommodate musicals, drama and dance as well as opera, concerts and full symphony orchestras.

Despite being relatively new, Shishan has already attracted major international productions, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera and Cats, as well as the original West End production of Life of Pi.
