Naughty Beer(Vanke Mid Town Plaza)

American-style smoked BBQ has become a defining feature of Naughty Beer at Vanke Midtown Plaza. Beef brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, chicken and sausage are smoked in-house and served individually, in other dishes or as generous sharing platters.

For the full experience, go for one of the mixed platters. The ¥188 platter for 1–2 people brings together beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken thigh and smoked sausage, with fries, salad and pita bread. The larger ¥268 platter for 2–3 adds beef rib alongside brisket, pork and smoked sausage.

The smoked meats aren't limited to the platters either. Brisket and smoked pork neck also find their way into burgers, pita breads and other dishes across the menu.

The menu goes well beyond BBQ.

There's a substantial selection of Western food, from steaks and big burgers to burritos, quesadillas, pita breads and salads. It's the kind of broad menu that works whether you're coming for a full steak dinner, grabbing a burger for lunch or sharing a mixture of dishes over a few beers.
And despite the restaurant's strong meat offering, there are plenty of lighter choices too, including generously sized salads.

Simon Tang — Head Chef

Naughty Beer’s focus on food is backed by a chef with considerable experience in Western kitchens.

Before joining Naughty Beer, Simon Tang was Head Chef at Alimentari, the popular Italian restaurant in Shanghai. Before that, he was Head Chef at Löwenburg, one of the early Western restaurants in SIP. The German restaurant was located at Rainbow Walk and will be familiar to many of Suzhou’s longer-term expats.

Today Simon brings that experience to Naughty Beer, where American-style smoked BBQ has become a major focus of the kitchen. Brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs and chicken are all smoked in-house, alongside a broader Western menu.

Beer has been part of Naughty Beer’s identity from the very beginning.

The original Naughty Beer was one of the early names in Suzhou’s craft beer scene. Coverage from 2016 described its beer fridges as carrying more than 100 different beers, giving local drinkers a breadth of choice that was unusual in Suzhou at the time.

That love of beer continues at the Vanke Midtown Plaza location, with a wide selection available alongside the BBQ.

Beer isn’t the only thing Naughty Beer takes seriously.

Look behind the bar and you’ll find a surprisingly extensive collection of gin, giving the drinks selection considerably more range than the name might suggest.

Whether you already have a favourite or want to try something different after the beer, there’s plenty to explore.

Naughty Beer can show live matches and replays from Europe’s five major football leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1), as well as the Chinese Super League and the hugely popular Jiangsu amateur league. They don’t show every game by default, but if there’s a particular match you want to watch, just ask the team and they can usually put it on.

Other sports may also be available on request, so it’s worth asking if there’s something you don’t want to miss.

From birthday parties and get-togethers to company events, Naughty Beer can host private events for anything from small groups to a full venue takeover for up to 70 guests.

The BBQ doesn’t have to stay at Naughty Beer.

Naughty Beer also offers outside catering for private parties, company events and larger gatherings, with its smoked meats and sharing platters particularly well suited to feeding a crowd.

There was a time when Naughty Beer seemed to be everywhere in Suzhou, with multiple locations around the city making it a familiar name on the local food and drink scene. COVID and the difficult years that followed took their toll, and today the Vanke Midtown Plaza restaurant is the last of those locations still operating. But that may be about to change.

A recently closed second location is being replaced by a new and improved venue nearby, close to Xinghai Square in downtown SIP (@ Global 188). Details are still to come, but its opening could mark the beginning of a new chapter for one of Suzhou’s longest-running homegrown F&B names.
