SUZHOU SCENE SPOTLIGHT

One of the region's biggest beer festivals returns this August as the 21st Taicang Rothenburg Oktoberfest transforms Taicang's German-themed Rothenburg district into five nights of Bavarian-inspired celebrations. Running from 18-22 August, the festival combines an authentic indoor Oktoberfest with a lively outdoor beer market, live entertainment and family-friendly activities, making it well worth the short trip from Suzhou.

Authentic Oktoberfest Atmosphere

The centrepiece of the festival is the Oktoberfest Hall inside the Maritim Hotel & Conference Center, where visitors can enjoy authentic German beer, traditional Bavarian food and live performances by German bands. Guest DJs, beer competitions and classic Oktoberfest entertainment recreate the atmosphere of Germany's famous beer festival without leaving Jiangsu.

Beer Street Comes Alive

Outside, Rothenburg Street becomes a huge open-air festival running from 4pm until 10pm each day. More than 80 stalls and food vendors line the streets, serving everything from German favourites and international beers to street food, cocktails and summer snacks. Whether you're looking for a cold beer, a bite to eat or simply somewhere to soak up the atmosphere, there's plenty to explore.

Entertainment Throughout the Evening

The fun isn't limited to the main stage. Throughout the district you'll find live bands, DJs, roaming performers, flash mobs, Hanfu parades, interactive robot characters, clown performances and even dinosaur encounters. Large outdoor screens also broadcast entertainment from the main Oktoberfest hall, while football fans can catch Jiangsu City League matches without missing the festival atmosphere.

Fun for the Whole Family

Although beer is the headline attraction, the festival has plenty to keep families entertained too. Children's play areas, craft activities, interactive experiences and a wide selection of food and dessert stalls mean even non-drinkers will find plenty to enjoy. It's designed as a summer evening festival rather than simply a beer event.
